Elk Grove Village is a large village located in northwest Illinois. The village is adjacent to the O’Hare International Airport and is located about 23 miles from downtown Chicago. Elk Grove Village is positioned in Cook County and a small portion of the village extends into DuPage County. In 2016, the population of Elk Grove Village was almost 33,000 according to the United States Census Bureau.
Original inhabitants of the area Elk Grove Village is located in were Native American Indians. By the 1830s, New England farmers arrived in the area and settled present-day Elk Grove Village. In 1848, a population of German-immigrant farmers settled in the area. They contributed greatly to the community and a thriving village was established. In 1956, Elk Grove Village was incorporated. The village is named for native elk that roamed the surrounding forests and grasslands.
Individuals who visit modern-day Elk Grove Village will discover a charming and thriving community. There are many things to see and do in Elk Grove Village. During the month of July, the Mid-Summer Classics concert series takes place. The concert series features a variety of musical guests and encourages community fellowship. Also, there are many attractions located in and around Elk Grove Village. The Ned Brown Preserve is a 3,700-acre preserve that features a lake and running and bicycle trails. Also located in the village is Fox Run Golf Links, a beautiful 18-hole golf course. In Elk Grove Village, there is something for every interest type and preference.
